**Waterspouts Possible Over Lake Ontario**

Conditions are favorable for the formation of waterspouts over the open waters of Lake Ontario. This alert is in effect now until 8 PM this evening.

Boaters are advised to exercise caution, as winds and waves can be erratic in and around waterspouts. It is important for boaters to be prepared to take appropriate action and return to harbor if a warning is issued.

Waterspouts are more likely to develop along or near lines of lake effect showers. They can produce winds of 30 knots or greater. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms may create waterspouts with little or no advance warning.

For safety, boaters should seek safe harbor if a waterspout is spotted and tune to NOAA weather radio for up-to-date warning information.

This notice has been issued by the Weather Forecast Office in Buffalo, New York.
