LONG DURATION LAKE EFFECT SNOWFALL EXPECTED INTO THE WEEKEND

Lake effect snow is expected to begin tonight, intensifying especially by Friday morning with snowfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour possible off both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

On Friday night, the lake effect snow band originating from Lake Erie is predicted to drift north into southern Erie County, with anticipated snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour continuing off both lakes.

By Saturday, the snow band from Lake Erie may move further north, affecting the Buffalo Southtowns area. Snowfall rates could again reach up to 3 inches per hour off both lakes.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY, residents should prepare for this prolonged period of snowfall over the Thanksgiving weekend.
