The East Aurora Police Department has issued a reminder to residents as news stations begin to monitor a potential lake effect snow event this weekend. With winter weather approaching, officials advise drivers to prepare for possible challenges on the roads.

Motorists are urged to ensure that their fuel gauge does not drop below a quarter tank. Additionally, the police department recommends keeping the following items in your vehicle during the winter months in case of becoming stranded in a storm:

- Ice scraper/snow brush

- Blanket

- Flashlight with extra batteries

- Cell phone charger

- Jumper cables

- Spare winter hat and gloves

- Non-perishable food items such as granola bars and bottled water

For added safety, the police suggest considering the inclusion of additional items such as:

- Tow strap

- Small tool kit

- Hand and toe warmers

- First aid kit

- Collapsible shovel

- Bag of sand for traction

- Road flares

Residents are encouraged to take these precautions to ensure their safety during the winter weather conditions.
