The National Weather Service in Buffalo, New York, has issued a forecast regarding the potential for measurable snowfall by Friday morning, November 22.

The chance of snowfall varies by location, with Olean and Wellsville experiencing a 100% chance of measurable snow. Buffalo and Jamestown have a 50% chance, followed closely by Geneva and Lowville at 45%. Rochester has a 45% chance, while Watertown has a lower chance at 30%.

The forecast indicates that following widespread rain, colder air will move across the lakes on Thursday night, increasing the likelihood of wet snow. Minor accumulations are expected, particularly at higher elevations east and southeast of the lakes. The best opportunities for measurable snow are anticipated at night, with limited chances on Thursday night but improved prospects on Friday night.

This weather event is a result of a large low-pressure system affecting the region from Wednesday night through the end of the week. Buffalo and Rochester are nearing record dates for the latest recorded snowfall, with Buffalo's record dating back to November 22, 1946, and 1985, and Rochester's to November 20, 1918.
